Civic and Freedom Parade!22/05/17
On Saturday 20th May 2017 representatives of StarBurst, South Borough Primary School’s Drama club, were invited to participate in the Civic and Freedom parade.
They were supported by Teaching Assistant - Mrs Rotter, Friends of South Borough and After School Leader - Mrs King and Senior Teaching Assistant and Drama Club Coordinator - Mrs Samways. The club members marched behind the Salvation Army who recognised the children from taking part in their Christmas show last year. After stopping to wave our jazz hands at the Mayor outside the Town Hall there was a sudden downpour. This didn’t seem to discourage the children who carried on marching down to the Archbishop’s Gardens.
The children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 attended the Civic service at All Saints Church lead by The Revd Ian Parrish. The service was attended by the 36 Royal Engineers Regiment, Queen’s Gurkha Engineers and other parade participants. The children sat alongside the Borough’s councillors and the new Mayor Elect of Maidstone, Councillor Malcolm Greer.
The Mayor of Maidstone arrived at All Saints Church in a horse-drawn carriage. The carriage is over a hundred years old and is normally on display at Tyrwhitt-Drake Museum of Carriages opposite the Archbishop’s Palace.
